TRUC BACH LAKE.
Truc Bach (white silk) Lake is separated from west lake by Thanh Nien street. Which is lined with flame trees. The look of this street as well as its name just was given since 1957-1958. previous name was Co Ngu. It was grown up from a narrow dyke on the corner of the West Lake. Truc Bach was founded since XVII century when the villagers of Yen Hoa (now Yen Phu) and Yen Giang (now at the end of Chuan Thanh street) villages had heaped a dyke to partition a South-East corner of the West Lake from the cultivate fish (so it is said that Co Ngu should be i.e, keep steady). According to book about geography description Tay Ho on the South of the lake there was Trung Yen village-this village had a trade of making bamboo screen, so every family grew bamboo – like phyllostachyses. This kindo tree grew as an jungle. Under the dynasty of Trinh Giang Lord (1929-1740) had built here a palace named Truc Lam court in dulge in sensual pleasures. Then this court became a place to keep error ladies in waiting in a prison cell
This ladies had to made money by weaving silk cloth. Their silk cloth were very nice, know to the whole capital city, and it called silk cloth of tree village (in Chinese, white silk)
As West Lake on the side of white silk lake there are a lot of historical vestiges and special architecture works. The Quan Thanh pagoda (also called Tran Vo temple) is on the shore of Truc Bach Lake. On the shore there is Chau Long pagoda (on Chau Long street). The legend had it that this pagoda was built from Tran dynasty, this is a place to lead a religious life of a princess – the king Tran Nhan Tong’s daughter. On this East shore there are also An Tri temple worship Uy Do a hero in fighting against Nguyen aggressors. This temple is on Pho Duc Chinh street.
Because of being hid by streets, so only the North bordering with Thanh Nien street looks into the lake. On the North corner of the lake, a few spreads of arms far from the Thanh Nien street there us a small land hill.
On this hill there is a small temple named Cau Khi. This temple related to the movement of capital under the dynasty of the Kinh Ly Cong Uan. Ly was born on Giap Tuat (974) had moved the capital in the year Canh Tuat (1010) according to ancient calendar, Tuat means the years of the dog according to traditional belief, dog is kid, which can drive away the devils, ghosts, defend the land. The legend has it that before the day the King Ly Cong Uan moved the capital a dog had made a nest to give a birth on the Nung mountain.
When came to Thang Long, the king Ly thought that was as lucky thing. He set up a temple to worship an offering dog on the mpintain. In later dynasty Cau Nhi (offering dog) temple was moved to the Hoang Thanh (Hoang rampart) built on the hill centre of the Truc lake. This temple was destroyed there is only a stale on which stated this stony.
According to traditional custom researchers the king Ly Cong Uan organized worshiping the heaven used dog as an offering, then burned it in the Nung mountain to defend the Yen
On the West shore, there is a stale in whixh carved a American solder kneeling and raising his hands for surrendering. That is a stale to commemorate the victory of Hanoi defenders before the American enemy
